Visa of the Republic of Korea
(when an alien enters the Republic of Korea) VISA NAVIGATOR
What is Visa and Passport
  • - The term "visa" means the "entry permit confirmation" of a state which acknowledges that an alien can enter, or the "consul's entry recommendation act" for an alien's entry permit application.
  • - To depart for a foreign country, a national must have a valid passport and must obtain a visa (if necessary) at the embassy or consulate of the country in which they reside. However, a national departing for 90 countries that have entered into a visa exemption agreement with Korea does not need to obtain a visa if he or she intends to visit one of the relevant countries within a certain period of time acknowledged by the agreement.
  • - An alien who intends to enter the Republic of Korea must have a visa as a basic requirement for an entry permit, in principle. However, aliens in a certain range of countries, such as nationals of a country that has entered into a visa exemption agreement with the Republic of Korea, may enter the Republic of Korea without a visa.
  • - The term "passport" means an identification card with personal information such as the nationality of the holder and is a document issued by the Government of the Republic of Korea to request that the destination country's authorities provide convenience and appropriate protection of Korean people. They might be classified as ordinary passports, official passports and diplomatic passports, or single passports and multiple passports depending on the number of trips overseas allowed.
